Confused about how you can utilise AI tools for copywriters? Or maybe you’re unsure whether you should engage with AI for copywriting?
At 101 Training we are all for trying out AI technology where it makes our work faster and more efficient.
We don’t use AI to generate copy, because we’re firm believers that copywriting for humans is a job that’s best done by humans.
Lots of copywriters fear that AI is “coming for” our jobs. But AI for copywriters isn’t necessarily bad news.
We think the role of a skilled copywriter is going to become more important than ever. After all, when anyone with an internet connection can create masses of automated content, how can a business or a website publisher hope to stand out? The answer is surely to have personalised, high quality, engaging copy that does a great job of connecting with humans. What AI means for copywriters is that we can deliver that content, but use AI intelligently to do so more efficiently and cost-effectively.
Advantages of using AI for Copywriters
AI tools have a lot of compelling advantages. They’re great for brainstorming, for building out frameworks, or repurposing content quickly. They can do a lot of desk research very quickly, identifying great sources for research citations, or recipes, or tutorials.
At this point, AI isn’t a great option for copywriters working on novel ideas and content. Many clients don’t want commercially sensitive content to be shared with AI, unsure of where and how data might resurface.
For me, the biggest advantage of making AI part of the copywriting process is treating GPT as an assistant/researcher. GPT to do desk research in vastly less time than it would take me, using a simple search engine.
Rather than trawling through Google looking for 10 examples of ways users might benefit from a specific product or service, I can ask GPT to find information. Instead of using an SEO tool to find the most common questions about a business issue, I can ask a GPT. That doesn’t mean the AI is doing my work for me. I’m still taking that content and making it the basis of my work, in my own words. But it has saved me hours of time, and in a world where time is money, that’s important.
As a copywriter, I’m exploring and learning about AI tools not because I think they will replace copywriters. Rather, I think the best copywriters in the next 5 years will be those who can use AI tools to make their own work more efficient and more effective. And we can only become those copywriters by engaging with AI tools and learning about their uses today.
If you’re a copywriter, and want to know more about how AI can help you to become more efficient, without ruining what makes your work uniquely your own, then 101 Training can help.
